HostI want to start with a simple question: what separates a good communicator from a truly exceptional one?
ExpertPrecision. Clear communication is the baseline. Truly exceptional communicators choose every single word with deliberate and conscious intent.
HostIs that something that can realistically be taught, or is it fundamentally a natural gift that cannot be developed?
ExpertAlmost entirely taught — but it demands being ruthless about eliminating the comfortable vagueness we all instinctively default to.
HostCan you give us a concrete, memorable example of what you actually mean by comfortable vagueness in speech?
Expert'We are working on improving things.' What things? How? By when? Against what standard? Every word does nothing.
HostSo precision, when framed that way, is really a form of accountability — you cannot be vague and accountable simultaneously.
ExpertExactly. Precision and accountability are two sides of the same coin — you genuinely cannot sustain one without the other.

4. Speaking Practice
Practice A: Repeat Aloud
- Choose a position you hold strongly. Argue it in 90 seconds using only precise, deliberate language — no filler.
- Take a statement you often make vaguely and rewrite it with full precision. What changes?
- Record yourself speaking for 60 seconds and identify every word that does not earn its place.
- Deliver the same message at three different levels of authority. What changes in vocabulary, syntax, and tone?
- What is the single most important thing you want someone to know about your expertise? Say it with authority in two sentences.
